Summary

Students bringing a computer to campus can — and should — prepare their computers to access the Rowan Network.

Every computer that connects to the University's network will be scanned and must meet a certain set of requirements in order to get online. This applies to all student-owned computers, including computers brought to campus by residents and commuters.

IRT strongly suggests that students prepare their computers from home in order to access the Rowan Network quickly and easily upon arrival on campus.

Please select your operating system from the links below for the appropriate instructions.

If you do not know your Rowan Network username and password go to: http://id.rowan.edu.

PLEASE NOTE: Phones and Tablets
Student-owned mobile devices do not need to meet any additional requirements to connect to the RowanSecure wireless network. Simply connect to RowanSecure once you are on campus and login with your Rowan username and password. But students who have been paid by the University as an employee (as a part-time or summer worker, for example), or have an employee role in addition to their student role for any other reason, will be prompted to follow the employee instructions for iOS devices and for Android devices after connecting.

Windows

Requirements:

Personal computers running any Windows operating system on the Rowan Network must have non-trial, licensed, fully updated anti-virus and anti-spyware software installed. If you have multiple anti-virus or anti-spyware packages installed on your computer, they must all be fully updated to meet the requirements or you can uninstall all but your main anti-virus/anti-spyware software.

NOTE: Rowan University offers McAfee Endpoint Security to students and employees for free to use on their personal computers.

The only supported operating systems are Windows 7 (released October 2009), Windows 8 and Windows 10.

Automated Installation

The automated installer below will:

  • Remove the old RowanWPA connection, if it exists.
  • Install the ClearPass OnGuard Agent.
  • Add a connection for the RowanSecure wireless network.

Download RowanSecure.exe and double-click it to install. If you are running Windows 7, select "Yes" when prompted. If you are running Windows 8, select "Run anyway" when it asks if you want to run it.

After the OnGuard Agent is installed, the status will be: "Unknown." This is to be expected while off-campus.

Once you get to campus, you will simply need to plug your computer into the wired network, or connect to the RowanSecure wireless network, and login with your Rowan username and password.

You will be prompted to login to ClearPass with your Rowan username and password. The agent will then update and scan your computer. Please make sure any anti-virus and anti-spyware software you installed is completely updated before you arrive on campus.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If your computer's anti-virus software isn't updated consistently or if the OnGuard agent is disabled, your computer will be blocked from accessing the Rowan Network.

MAC OS X

Requirements:

We recommend that Mac computers have a minimum of OS X 10.8  and must run Software Update to install the latest updates before installing the ClearPass OnGuard agent. If your computer does not meet the minimum OS X recommendation of 10.8, please visit the Apple Upgrade Site for more information.

All computers must have non-trial, licensed, fully updated anti-virus and anti-spyware software installed.

NOTE: Rowan University offers McAfee Endpoint Security to students and employees for free to use on their personal computers.

You can download and install this package from home before you get to campus in preparation for connecting to the new ClearPass Registration System.
