Office 365 for Students FAQ

 What is Office 365 Education?

Office 365 Education is an Office 365 plan that allows students, faculty and staff of Rowan University to install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher (PC only) and Access (PC only) on up to five personal computers. Users can download the Office 2016 suite to use locally on their machines or access the portal at portal.office.com to use the Office applications directly from a web browser.

Who is eligible for Office 365 under the Rowan University plan?

Currently active students at Rowan University are eligible, as well as active faculty and staff, as long as they have a Rowan email address (for example, username@students.rowan.edu or username@rowan.edu), are of legal age to sign up for an online offer (13 years old) and have Internet access.

How long am I covered to use Office 365?

You can use the plan until you graduate or are no longer enrolled at Rowan. When it expires, the Office applications will enter a limited-functionality mode that allows documents to be viewed but not edited. You also won't be able to create a new document. Other online services such as Office Online and OneDrive will no longer function.

Where can I install Office 365 applications?

You can install the Office applications on up to five devices you own. Account information or the software is not to be distributed to users unaffiliated with Rowan University.

Office 365 applications SHOULD NOT be installed on Rowan-owned computers (Rowan computer labs, faculty/staff distributed desktops/laptops, etc.). If a Rowan-owned computer needs the latest version of Office, contact the IRT Support Center at 856.256.4400 or support@rowan.edu.

How do I deactivate a license from a computer?

In the event you've used up all five of your designated installations from the Office portal, you can reclaim licenses by deactivating machines that are no longer using the Office suite. Go to portal.office.com and click the gear symbol in the top right corner of the screen and then click Office 365 under "Your app settings." On the left navigational pane, click Install status and click the deactivate link under the computer you wish to deactivate.

If I have trouble installing or using Office 365, where can I get help?
