Students may require Duo two-factor access during exams

With final exams scheduled to begin soon, Information Resources & Technology would like to remind the University community that students may require access to Duo two-factor authentication methods during exams.

Students are required to verify their identity in order to log in to certain protected applications, including Blackboard and Canvas, and they may do so in several ways, including using the Duo app or receiving a phone call or text message on their cell phone.

If students are required to have their cell phones turned off or otherwise inaccessible during an exam administered in Blackboard or Canvas, students who choose to verify through one of those options may not be able to log in.

Students may also request a bypass code from duo.rowan.edu that can be used in place of their cell phone during a scheduled exam. The bypass code is good for 24 hours.

Authentication with Duo should only take a minute or so and in no way requires students to continue to have access to their phones throughout an exam.

Note: ExamSoft/Examplify, COMAT and COMSAE exams do not currently require Duo two-factor authentication.
