New update tool coming to Lenovo computers on 11-16-2022

Information Resources & Technology is deploying a new software utility tool to all Rowan-managed Lenovo computers that will automatically check for and ask you to install system and firmware updates. This tool, called Lenovo System Update, will help protect your computer from security threats and optimize system performance.

We will start deploying Lenovo System Update to Rowan-managed computers on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

What does this mean for you?

If you use a Rowan-managed Lenovo computer, you will start receiving prompts from Lenovo System Update to install updates on your computer on or after Wednesday, Nov. 16. Here’s what you can expect:

  • The first time you receive an update prompt, you may be required to install a series of updates, some of which will require you to reboot your computer. These updates cannot be installed at once. They must be done one at a time. So, you may have to reboot your computer multiple times, but you will have the option to defer updates, if needed.
  • After the initial updates are installed, you will periodically receive a prompt whenever a new update is available for your computer. You can expect this to happen about once a month.
  • You can also check for updates on your own by launching Lenovo System Update from the start menu. See our article on Lenovo System Update for more information
