Employees may now upgrade to macOS Sonoma on their own

Employees may now upgrade Rowan-owned Mac computers to the macOS Sonoma operating on their own through Self Service. If your computer is running macOS Big Sur, you are required to upgrade to macOS Monterey or newer to stay compliant.

Please back up any important documents or other content before starting the upgrade and close all applications. You may lose unsaved data if the upgrade is not successful. IRT recommends you backup your computer using CrashPlan, or you may use Google Drive

If you are upgrading a laptop, make sure your AC power cord is connected to your computer.

When you are ready to begin the upgrade:

  1. Go to Finder > Applications > Self Service
  2. Log in with your Rowan NetID
  3. Locate the “macOS Sonoma Upgrade” option, click Install and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

As part of the upgrade to macOS Sonoma, IRT will be installing BeyondTrust Privilege Management. While most Mac users have used Privileges.app to temporarily elevate their account to an admin, Rowan is moving toward a new solution for administrative access. Privilege Management for Mac allows users to log in with standard user accounts without compromising productivity or performance, by allowing the execution of approved tasks, applications and installations, as required.

If you have any questions, please contact the Technology Support Center at 856-256-4400, or submit a ticket in the Rowan Support Portal.
