Major hardware upgrade strengthens Banner system

Information Resources & Technology has recently implemented significant improvements to the system that supports Banner in order to deliver a better experience to the thousands of students, faculty and staff who use that platform on a daily basis.

The most noteworthy improvement that we made is the installation of more powerful hardware. With double the amount of memory and nearly four times the number of processor cores, the new hardware is far more powerful than our previous setup. The new hardware, which was installed in September following extensive testing, also operates on a separate, dedicated network.

The new hardware was designed and installed to provide users with faster response times and improved system performance while using Banner. To that end, we also addressed several minor configuration issues in the system that we uncovered with the help of our strategic partners over the course of the summer.

We are confident that the installation of the new hardware and the other recent changes have resolved all known issues with the system. There is no way to eliminate all risk when updating this type of complex environment, but we will be closely monitoring the system in order to identify and pursue any additional opportunities to improve system performance up to and throughout spring 2018 registration.

We are committed to providing excellent services to the University, and we dedicated significant internal and external resources in order to develop a faster, more powerful system to support Banner following the registration issues last spring.

We will work toward further optimizing the performance of this system, and all of the other digital resources we manage, as we move forward.
