Information Resources & Technology is continuing to implement a network update that will require all devices to authenticate with ClearPass before accessing the Rowan Network through a wired connection. This update, which is being rolled out in phases, applies to computers, printers and scanners on the Glassboro and Camden campuses.
Employees using standard Rowan-owned devices should not notice any changes due to this update. This update will require employees who access the Rowan Network through a wired connection on a personal device to authenticate through ClearPass.
Wired devices on the Stratford campus and most clinical locations are already required to authenticate with ClearPass. Expanding this requirement to all campuses will help us better protect the University’s information resources.
When Is This Update Happening?
We are rolling out this network update in phases, and we currently expect to have this update implemented in every building on the Glassboro and Camden campuses by the end of the year.
We will notify building managers via email at least two weeks before the update is scheduled for their buildings.
How Will This Affect Rowan-Owned Devices?
Employees who work on a standard Rowan-owned and managed computer should not notice any changes after this update. You will continue to log in to your computer and access the internet as you normally do.
If you receive a ClearPass prompt after the upgrade, please reboot your computer. If this does not resolve the issue, you may be using a computer that does not follow the University’s standards for managed devices.
If you are using something other than your current Rowan Network username and password to log in to your computer or if your computer isn’t running at least Windows 7 or macOS 10.11, your device does not meet current University standards.
We are aware that some employees have devices that have been granted exceptions to those standards. If you believe you are one of those employees, please contact support@rowan.edu so we can determine how best to accommodate you.
If you believe your device does not meet current University standards but you have not been granted an exception to those standards, please contact your supervisor to discuss your options.
How Will This Affect Personal Devices?
If you use a personal device to access the Rowan Network through a wired connection, you will need to authenticate with ClearPass like you would on a wireless device. That means you will need to install the ClearPass OnGuard agent on your device, as well as a supported anti-virus program.
