Update regarding Kaltura closed captioning problem

Information Resources & Technology has identified perhaps a few dozen videos created or uploaded to Kaltura between March 16 and April 24 that may have been affected by our vendor Kaltura’s addition of automatic closed captioning. We have reached out to everyone we believe was affected and offered assistance.

If you still need assistance with editing or deleting the captions on your video, or have any questions about the process, please contact us at media-request@rowan.edu.

If you would like to edit or delete the captions on your video, please watch this short video for instructions.

We ask that after people upload content to Kaltura, they put in a request to have the captioning turned on for their video and make arrangements to have the captions corrected when they are ready. They have the following three options for correcting the captions:

  1. For short or long videos: Edit the captions themselves. This is recommended for content with a lot of technical discipline specific terminology. This normally results in 98% to 100% accuracy.
  2. For short videos: Put in a request. We have a small team of student workers that may be able to assist. This normally results in 95% to 100% accuracy.
  3. For long videos: Pay for captioning. This is recommended for content with a lot of technical discipline specific terminology and ensures 99.99% accuracy upon initial captioning
