Information Resources & Technology started blocking computers running Windows 7 from connecting to the Rowan Network on Jan. 14, the date Microsoft stopped providing security updates and other patches for that operating system.
All personal computers running Windows 7 have now been blocked from accessing Rowan Network resources on campus, including wired and wireless internet, and most upgrades and replacements for eligible Rowan-owned Windows 7 computers have been completed.
We will start blocking any remaining Windows 7 computers that are still being used on campus from accessing the Rowan Network on Monday, March 2. These remaining computers are not eligible for the upgrade to Windows 10 and must be replaced by the department or office where they are being used.
We have been directly contacting affected employees regarding the status of these computers. If you want to replace one of these computers, you can submit an order through the hardware catalog in the IRT Support Portal. For help with the ordering process, visit go.rowan.edu/GetTechnology. Please note that new computers may take up to 8 to 10 weeks to receive due to a parts shortage that is delaying shipments from all manufacturers, including Lenovo and Apple.
Windows 7 computers that are already scheduled for replacement, as well as computers that have a confirmed exception approval number, such as REQ00XXXXX, from the Information Security Office within the last 12 months, will not be blocked from the Rowan Network at this time.
