Upgrade required for macOS High Sierra or older versions

Information Resources & Technology will be phasing out support for macOS High Sierra, macOS Sierra and macOS El Capitan on Rowan-owned computers this summer since Apple has stopped —or will soon stop — providing updates for those operating systems. Employees who are using a Rowan-owned computer with any of those versions of the macOS installed must upgrade their operating system by Friday, July 17. After Friday, July 17, we will begin to automatically upgrade machines that have not been upgraded.

What do employees with an outdated macOS need to do now?

  1. Back up your documents. Please back up any important documents or other content before starting the upgrade and close all applications. You may lose unsaved data if the upgrade is not successful.  Employees have access to unlimited storage on Google Drive. For help uploading files to Google Drive, review these instructions.
  2. Connect your power supply. If you are upgrading a laptop, make sure your AC power cord is connected to your computer.
  3. Upgrade your macOS. You can complete the upgrade on your own time by following the directions below:
    1. Go to Finder > Applications > Self Service
    2. Log in with your Rowan Network username and password
    3. Locate the “MacOS Catalina Upgrade” option, click Install and follow the prompts to complete the installation
