How 'Chipageddon' may affect your technology purchases

global chip shortage some are calling “Chipageddon” has disrupted supply chains for everything from automobiles to kitchen appliances, leading to production delays for a wide range of consumer goods.

This means it may take longer and cost more to buy electronic equipment, including laptops and smartphones.

As you consider your technology needs for the upcoming fiscal year, Information Resources & Technology encourages you to place your orders as early as possible to help with timely delivery. We are currently experiencing shipment delays from manufacturers like Lenovo and Apple due to the chip shortage, and experts expect the issue to continue for at least six months to a year — if not longer.

We are working closely with our vendors to ensure we have an adequate supply of workstations to provide through the University's trade-in cycle program, but it’s possible the chip shortage may delay our delivery of this equipment as well. We will provide updates, as necessary, on this developing situation.
