Improving your Rowan technology experience

Information Resources & Technology is making several changes to the way we manage technology in the coming year as part of a larger program to better support flexible work

The goal of this program is to equip employees with computers that will stay up-to-date with security and software patches — no matter where the computer is located — and improve the reliability and accessibility of key systems, including email.

As part of this program, we will be making the following changes in the next six months:

  • Upgrading older versions of Office to Microsoft 365 (Currently underway)
  • Moving @rowan.edu email accounts to Microsoft’s cloud-hosted service called Exchange Online (Spring 2023)
  • Transitioning antivirus software from Trellix (formerly McAfee) to Defender (Spring/Summer 2023)

Additional changes, including updating our approach to data encryption and storage, will come later this calendar year.

What do these changes mean for you?

These changes will ultimately give you a better experience using Rowan-managed technology. You can expect improved computer performance, increased email storage capacity and more secure, up-to-date applications.

While we are working to implement these changes with as little interruption as possible, some of them will require downtime and/or action on your part.

Before we implement each change, we will send a separate email detailing what is happening and when, and what, if anything, you will need to do. We appreciate your help in this effort, and we look forward to providing you with an improved end-user experience.
