New 100GB storage limits for Google Drive, OneDrive

Information Resources & Technology is changing how we manage cloud storage due to recent pricing updates from Microsoft and Google.

What’s changing, and when?

As of Wednesday, August 28, we are implementing a 100GB storage limit for Google Drive and a 100 GB storage limit for OneDrive, with additional storage provided on either platform by request. Additional storage will be provided in steps of 25GB, up to 500GB, and then in steps of 50GB.

Requests for more than 1TB of storage may require additional approvals.

How does this affect you?

If you reach your quota in Google Drive or OneDrive: Upon request, we will increase your storage limit to the next available step to ensure you can continue to access your data without interruption. Fill out this form to request additional storage.

What do you need to do now?

Monitor your cloud storage usage! Both Google Drive and OneDrive display your current storage usage at the bottom of the left-hand navigation pane. For help managing your data, review Google’s storage help article and Microsoft’s help article.

Why are we making this change?

Google and Microsoft recently started charging educational institutions, like Rowan University, for storage that was previously unlimited and free. By applying storage limits, we can continue to maintain reliable cloud storage services while managing our resources more effectively.
