Rowan adopts new AI policy

Rowan University recently adopted a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy that establishes rules around how institutional data may be used in tools like ChatGPT.

The policy, which was jointly issued by the Division of Information Resources & Technology and the Office of the Provost, states:

  1. Only Rowan data classified as public may be used in non-approved AI tools.
  2. Data of any classification type other than public may only be used in approved AI tools.

Review our data classification article for definitions and examples of data types at Rowan University. Visit IRT’s generative AI page for a current list of Rowan-approved AI tools and guidelines for using other AI tools.
