WiFi issues on your phone? Check this setting

A built-in security feature on many Apple and Android devices is interfering with how campus networks across the country recognize your phone. This feature, often called Private Wi-Fi Address or Randomized MAC, is leading to repeated login prompts or spotty connectivity for some users, including at Rowan University.

Follow the steps below to turn off this feature on your phone. 

Apple

  1. Forget RowanWifi
  2. Follow these Apple instructions to turn off Private Wi-Fi Address on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch.
  3. Reconnect to RowanWiFi

Android

You must adjust this setting by network on Android devices. The steps below may vary depending on your phone and Android version. 

Google Pixel

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Select Network & Internet
  3. Select Wi-Fi
  4. Connect to RowanWiFi
  5. Tap the gear icon next to the connected network
  6. Select Advanced
  7. Select Privacy
  8. Choose Use device MAC

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select Connections
  3. Select Wi-Fi
  4. Connect to RowanWiFi
  5. Tap the gear icon next to the connected network
  6. Select Advanced
  7. Tap MAC Address Type
  8. Select Use phone/device MAC
