How to protect your Rowan computer and data

Here’s how you can defend your computer from cyber threats: 

  • Install operating system & software updates: You’ll receive notifications in your taskbar when you have pending updates on a Windows computer. Review our article on checking for updates to see exactly what to look for on your Windows computer or to get instructions for Mac computers. 
  • Lock your computer when you’re not using it: Whether you’re stepping away for a meeting or leaving the office for the day, lock your computer. You can easily do so using the following shortcuts:
    • Windows: Windows key + L
    • Mac: Control + Command + Q
  • Connect to the VPN when off-campus: Make sure you have the latest security updates and software patches by connecting to the Rowan VPN for at least two hours a day if your computer is mostly used off-campus.
